Mirwaiz calls for balanced education, warns against gadget addiction | KNO

Srinagar, May 20 (KNO): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday stressed the need for holistic and value-based education while expressing concern over growing gadget dependence among youth during a seminar held in connection with the 36th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) in Srinagar. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said a seminar titled “Holistic Education for a Healthy Society: Nurturing the Mind and Body” was held at the main auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal, in connection with the 36th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq (RA). He said the seminar was attended by members and well-wishers of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, academicians, teachers and students from various educational institutions, including RP School, Burn Hall School, Muslim Public School, Islamia Higher Secondary School Rajouri Kadal, Tibetan Public School, Greenland Higher Secondary School, Crescent Public High School, Motherland School, Green Valley School Illahi Bagh, Islamia High School Anantnag and Islamia Oriental College Rajouri Kadal. “Students presented papers on the seminar theme, while the first position was bagged by Fatima Tramboo of Tibetan Public School. Mohammad Rehaab Khan of Burn Hall School secured the second position, while the third position was jointly secured by Imaan Shabir of RP School, Shameem Bin Shafaat of Green Valley School and Moeen Khursheed of Nusrat-ul-Islam Trust Anantnag,” the spokesperson said. Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq stressed the importance of balanced and value-based education, saying Islam emphasizes the intellectual, physical, moral and spiritual development of human beings. “Mirwaiz expressed concern over the excessive use of mobile phones, gadgets and social media among the younger generation, saying it is increasingly affecting the mental, physical and social wellbeing of students. He said outdoor activities, reading habits and meaningful social interaction are gradually declining, and emphasized the need to guide youth towards balanced lifestyles and constructive engagement,” the spokesperson said. Paying tributes to Shaheed-e-Millat (RA), Mirwaiz said his lifelong mission revolved around education, social reform, communal harmony and the moral upliftment of society. “He said Shaheed-e-Millat (RA), through Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam and from the pulpit of Jama Masjid Srinagar, worked tirelessly for the educational and ethical guidance of society. A special edition of the monthly Nusrat-ul-Islam magazine titled ‘Shaheed-e-Millat Number’ was also released on the occasion,” the spokesperson added. —(KNO)
